While for those attending the festival from out of town, here are our recommended San Francisco Hotels and Travel suggestions.
San Francisco is home to a variety of amazing hotels, ranging from classic and elegant to modern and cutting edge.
Here are recommendations of some of most highly regarded S.F. hotels, including legendary landmarks as well as some of the best hotels local to the best cinemas in town.
“A proper luxury hotel.”
– Conde Nast Traveler
Delight in an unforgettable experience at the St. Regis Hotel, the premier Bay area luxury hotel located in the financial district. With a commitment to excellence, this Five-Star Hotel features newly redesigned rooms and suites, accompanied by Marriott’s renowned service.
One of San Francisco’s most legendary hotels, the St Regis is located in the heart of downtown’s luxury hotel district.
Unforgettable. Since 1907
– The Fairmont Hotel
A San Francisco institution atop Nob Hill, the Fairmont is stately enough to be mistaken for an embassy or palace. It’s certainly one of the most luxurious hotels in the city. Centrally located in the heart of the city, and just a short cable car trip from the bustling Financial District, Union Square and Fisherman’s Wharf and it is the only spot in San Francisco where each of the cities Cable Car lines meet.
The Fairmont’s two dining venues include the legendary Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar and Laurel Court Restaurant. This landmark jewel of the City by the Bay is located near the Landmark Opera House Cinemas, …and all the other movie houses of the city are just a downhill walk or a Cable Car ride away.
Ladies and Gentleman serving Ladies and Gentleman
– Ritz Carlton motto
The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco is another of the city’s top hotels. Located in Nob Hill. This landmark property is within walking distance to Union Square shopping, the Ferry Building, the Financial District, a main Cable Car stop, and the Landmark Opera House Cinema.
Another world-renowned San Francisco luxury hotel, the Ritz Carlton is located in one of the nicest areas of the city, near the top of Nob Hill featuring many rooms with excellent views of the city.
Your home base in San Francisco.
– JDV Hotels
The hotel that locals recommend when they have family visiting from out of town. Hotel Kabuki was purchased by Hyatt Hotels, but still remains a cozy and decidedly cool hotel located in Japantown. With rooms decorated with traditional and contemporary Japanese art and the hotel’s 4,000-square-foot gym includes a yoga studio and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the hotel’s tea garden.
Along with the pricy Hotel Drisco, the Hotel Kabuki is perhaps the most centrally located hotel if your goal is visiting all the classic cinemas of the city, with the Presidio Theater, the Marina Theater, the Landmark Opera House Theater, the Fort Mason Center, the Vogue and Balboa Theaters and the 4 Star Theater all reasonably close by.
A longtime favorite of the Rock ‘n’ Roll set.
– The Phoenix
This 1950s motor lodge has been a magnet for the cool crowd ever since it served as a hangout for classic rock bands playing at The Fillmore. Now the Phoenix Hotel has been reincarnated as an uber-hip mid-century lodge in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood. Rooms are small and simple, but what they lack in space, they make up for in style.
The Phoenix is known for three things; being the hotel of choice for rock n rollers in the day, to now being a hipster oasis of cleanliness and safety in one of the rougher parts of the city, and for having some of the most affordable hotel rooms in SF. Located near the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, the Warfield, and the Fillmore. Nearby cinemas include the Landmark Opera House, as wells being reasonably close to the Presidio Theater, the Marina Theater, and the Vogue.
The feeling of a country hotel in Pacific Heights.
– The Phoenix
If the Tenderloin is to rough, how about one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in town? At the Hotel Drisco you can request turn-down service, and return to find a white-noise machine and a chocolate shortbread cookie stamped with the hotel logo. This hotel is for those looking for an intimate experience in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood.
This luxurious, unanimously loved, yet pricey hotel is located near the Presidio Theater, and the Marina Theater, while also not too far from the Landmark Opera House Cinemas, and the Vogue Theater, as well as being located reasonably close to the Balboa Theater, and the 4 Star.
Location, Location, Location.
– Tripadvisor
This humble former Motor Inn is quaint, cheap and situated on of the city’s nicest and safest neighborhoods. Opinions and experiences about this location vary, but if you can get a room here at the right price, you can’t beat the location. Don’t expect high luxury but some folks swear by the place, and for those driving into the city…they have parking, but no breakfast
Located almost next door to the Vogue Theater in one of the nicest little neighborhoods in the city, this Inn is also relatively close by the Presidio Theater and Marina Theater, and is not too far from the Vogue, and reasonably close by the 4 Star and Balboa Theaters.
One of the top ten luxury hotels in San Francisco.
– The Luxury Travel Expert
The Lodge at the Presidio is one of the most unique hotels in San Francisco. While not most luxurious hotel, (it does not offer a lot of amenities, there’s no pool, no gym or no spa), it’s by far one of the city’s most charming and different boutique properties. A hikers paradise that enjoys a stunning setting in the Presidio National Park on the northern side of the San Francisco Peninsula.
This is San Francisco’s closest hotel to the Golden Gate Bridge and is housed in former US army barracks, built between 1895-1997 with the majority of the rooms featuring great views of the Bay, the city skyline, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Located in the Presidio, this hotel is a quick car ride to the Vogue Theater, the Presidio and Marina Theaters, the 4 Star Theater, and the Balboa Theater.
A unique lodging experience since 1959.
– The Seal Rock Inn
Situated next to the quiet, scenic surroundings of the Sutro Heights Park, Seal Rock Inn is located far from the noisy downtown traffic and crowds, yet still in the city in a resort-like location. Two blocks up the hill from the historic Cliff House and Sutro Baths and only four blocks north of Golden Gate Park. The Seal Rock Inn is the lodging location for those wanting to explore the often foggy northwest corner of the San Francisco for some peaceful relaxation.
Located in the Richmond District, the northwest section of the city is the more peaceful and laid back part of town. Richmond was named one of the coolest neighborhoods in the word in Time Out magazine, which left locals conflicted as the laid back vibe is what makes this part of town so special. This property is blocks away from the classic Balboa Theater and a nice 40 minute walk to the 4 Star Theater, and reasonably close to the Vogue Theater.
The closest airport is the San Francisco International Airport (SFO). SFO is located in the unincorporated area of San Mateo County.
For domestic flights into San Francisco International Airport (SFO) the festival uses DELTA AIRLINES.
